The Coeur d’Alene Public Library now provides wireless access to the Internet through an 892.11a/b/g compliant WiFi Access Point connected to high-speed DSL. This unfiltered service is available on the main floor in the Main Circulation area, and is free.
To connect to this service, your device will need to have a built-in or attached 892.11a/b or g compliant WiFi Ethernet device, and it will need a browser or other Internet capable software.
Windows 2000 & XP
- Setup From Control Panel, select “Network and Dial-up Connections” or “Network and Internet Connections à Internet Connections”
- Right-click on “Wireless Network Connection” or “Local Area Connection” and click Properties
- Locate the Internet TCP/IP protocol and get into its Properties
- Select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically” and click OK
Windows Vista Setup
- From Control Panel, select “Networking and Sharing Center”
- Click on “Manage Network Connections” on the left side of the screen
- Right-click on the available WiFi connection and click on “Properties”
- Click the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click the Properties button below
- Select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically” and click OK
Macintosh Setup
- Select: Apple Menu --> Control Panel à TCP/IP, or Apple Menu --> System Preferences --> Network button --> TCP/IP tab
- Connect via “AirPort” or other wireless (WiFi) Ethernet
- Configure “Using DHCP Server.”
- Leave Name Server and Additional Search domains blank.
Additional Information Once the connection has been made, you will need to open your browser and accept the Wireless Access Policy.
Limitations and Disclaimers
- The wireless connection at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library is not secure. Information sent to or from your wireless device can be captured by anyone with a wireless device and appropriate software.
- Printing is not available through the wireless connection. Wireless users are welcome to save their information and checkout and use the library’s Internet Workstations to print.
- The library staff is not able to offer any technical assistance, and therefore cannot guarantee that you will be able to make a successful connection.
- The Coeur d’Alene Public Library is not responsible for the safety or privacy of equipment connected to the wireless connection and the people using it.
