Sundays Back on Schedule for Cd’A Library

Beginning July 5, the Coeur d’Alene Public Library will resume Sunday hours – noon to 5 p.m. – for the first time since it was closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The library will be closed Friday and Saturday, July 3 and 4, for the Independence Day holiday.
Beginning Monday, July 13, the library hopes to reopen its children’s and teen areas for patrons wishing to browse for books in those collections. Seating will be reduced to encourage distancing.
“We understand that the library is an inviting place for socializing, but as long as the number of COVID cases continues to rise in our area we must continue to ask our patrons to be cautious,” said Library Director Bette Ammon. “We are happy to be able to expand the space that the public can use to browse for books and to use computers, but we still can’t be a place for gathering in large groups, close together.”
She said that the library will again take reservations for the use of the Community Room, provided groups use distancing during their activities. The library encourages patrons to wear face masks and will provide masks to people who do not have their own, she said.
Summer Reading activities for children and teens have begun, but programming for those age groups will continue solely online.
Participants can visit the library during open hours and pick up a paper reading log. They can also track their reading through an online site: summer.cinlibraries.org.
Families visiting the library can pick up a Take-and-Make kit with everything they need to make a craft at home. Children’s Librarian Mandi Harris is providing programs Monday through Friday at www.facebook.com/cdachildrenslibrary.
The teens also have take-home activity packets, called the ActiviTEENs Challenge Guide, which includes fun activities that can be done from home and has secret codes that can be used with the Summer Reading online program for prizes. They can pick up a paper packet at the library.
Teens are invited to hop on the Teen Discord Server, where teen events are happening Monday through Friday online. For an invitation, go to https://tinyurl.com/cdateendiscord. Teen activities begin online each day at 2 p.m.
