Midge Thysell, left, a Books to You volunteer for the Coeur d'Alene Public Library has delivered books on tape to Ada Bateman for more than 10 years. Ada, who is legally blind, in unable to read even the library's large-print material, but enjoys its collection of audiobooks. She prefers autobiographies, historical novels and Christian literature. She is also a client of the Idaho State Library's Talking Books program. Ada is a resident of the Heritage Homes residential facility in Coeur d'Alene. The library's Books to You program has been serving patrons for nearly 20 years. The program is designed to serve patrons, of all ages, who are unable to visit the library. Volunteers visit the homebound on a regular basis to deliver and collect materials requested by the patrons. Patrons can request specific titles or authors or simply ask their volunteer to look for books about certain subjects.
